Fully Committed to “Nothing Without Us”
At Accessibility Standards Canada, we follow the principle of “Nothing without us.” This means involving people with disabilities and their allies in all aspects of our work, including:
- Developing standards
- Setting research priorities
- Joining technical committees
- Participating in research projects
Roadmap to 2040
- Our roadmap guides us toward a Canada without barriers by 2040. It focuses on two main areas:
- Creating top-quality standards for the short, medium, and long term
- Establishing ourselves as a strong leader and partner to encourage a cultural shift in Canada.
Inclusion, Diversity, and Accessibility
- Our technical committees are diverse, and these include:
- Seniors, youth, and Indigenous peoples
- Individuals who identify as either visible minorities or 2SLGBTQI+ or both
- Persons with disabilities make up 58% of our members.
- Women represent 52% of our members.
- This level of representation is among the best in Canada, if not the world.
Co-branded Standards (Accessible and Inclusive SDP)
- Accessibility Standards Canada is collaborating with CSA Group to develop co-branded standards.
- We expect to complete three standards in 2023:
- Accessible Design for the Built Environment (B651)
- Accessible Homes (B652) (with support from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation)
- Accessible Design for Automated Banking Machines and Self-Service Interactive Devices (B651.2)
