Accessibility Standards Canada creates and reviews standards for:

• the federal government
• federally regulated organizations

These standards aim to identify and remove barriers to accessibility. They are voluntary at first but can become mandatory if the Minister of Diversity, Inclusion and Persons with Disabilities adopts them into law.

Priority Areas

Through consultations on the Accessible Canada Act, the government identified key areas for improving accessibility, which include:

• Employment
• Built environment
• Information and communication technologies
• General communication
• Procurement of goods and services
• Program and service delivery
• Transportation

Centre of Expertise

Our Centre of Expertise provides access to:

• Current and developing standards
• Research funded through our grants program
