Recommendations and Strategies for Improving Accessibility and Inclusivity in SDP
General Accessibility Recommendations
Lau et al., (2024), as part of the CSA Group, list the following next steps and recommendations for accessibility in SDP in their resource:
- Evaluate existing standards to ensure they address barriers effectively.
- Update inadequate standards to improve inclusivity.
- Develop new standards in priority areas to enhance accessibility across Canada.
**ISO/IEC (2021)** is also actively working on ways to improve accessibility in their standards development process. They emphasize:
- The importance of consulting with stakeholders, including people with disabilities and advocacy groups.
- Involving these stakeholders throughout the standards development process to ensure accessibility is properly addressed.
- Regularly reviewing and updating accessibility standards to reflect new technology and changing needs.
- Having systems in place to ensure compliance and effective implementation of accessibility requirements.
